Vicki (1940)

"I started going out with Vicki. 'Course I was still married to Lorraine."

There was another girl involved there, that I met in Oakland. Kenneth's wife Ida was running an apartment, and I was staying with them. Seemed Ida was always getting' acquainted with everybody in the neighborhood, and I met this girl through her. How she'd met her, I don't know. Her name was Vicki. I forgot her last name. So I started runnin' around with her.

We went back down around San Diego from Oakland – the ship went down to Long Beach in San Diego, before it went over to Hawaii – and the same guy that drove them up drove the car back down with Ida and all the kids. Vicki came with them.

So Ida brought Vicki down to a little town north of San Diego, and they rented a place there. I started going out with Vicki. 'Course I was still married to Lorraine.

Then we went on out to Hawaii. I went out to Hawaii and I was gonna' get divorced, see. I got divorced in Pearl Harbor for – I don't know whether it was 60 or 80 dollars sticks in my mind. Guaranteed. Took about ten minutes, I think. You walk up before the judge, and they just said, "Divorce granted. Next!" I think that was 1940.

I also got in the hospital, on account of my kidney stones. I had to go to Pearl Harbor hospital. I was in there I guess a week or two.
